Carys Lewis

Carys Lewis is a Welsh-born actor, writer and director. She was raised in Canada where she studied at the George Brown Theatre School in Toronto. Carys returned to Wales after working professionally in Canada for over eight years.

Carys’ stage credits include NOW WHAT? (Humber Film), NINE MILE PORTAGE (Theatre by the Bay), WHEN THE ICE BREAKS (Down n’ Out Productions), THE CORPSE BRIDE (TheatrePANIK), THE TROJAN WOMEN (Alumnae Theatre),  SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER (George Brown Theatre), BRAND (George Brown Theatre) and ORESTES 2.0 (George Brown Theatre). As well as working on stage, Carys also is experienced in commercial and film work, and has also appeared in POBOL Y CWM for S4C.

Her directing credits include VENUS IN FUR (Assistant Director/Canadian Stage) and AIRPORT TALE (Director/ New Ideas Festival).

Carys is the Filmmaker in Residence at the Welsh National Opera, and has also worked with Ffilm Cymru and TeleFilm Canada as a writer.

As an advocate for equal representation of women in front of and behind the camera, Carys is the founder of two organizations: FEM Script Lab, a writing lab for female-identifying and non-binary screenwriters in Toronto, and SHIFFT Script Lab in Wales.

Carys is a fluent Welsh speaker.
