Jo was born in the Rhondda to a very arty family and trained as a classical singer at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music. After representing Wales in BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2001, Jo has had a very successful career singing principal roles with Welsh National Opera and travelling all over the world as a concert artist including Canada, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Austria, Malta and all over the UK. She continues to enjoy a busy and varied performing schedule.
Jo has been teaching for over ten years and has been vocal coach and Musical Director at Barry Comprehensive School Performing Arts Dept since 2008. Her first production at Barry was Les Miserables when her own daughter, Lydia, played Little Cossette at the age of 6! Other shows include West Side Story, Miss Saigon (her son George played Tam) Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Little Shop of Horrors, Joseph and We Will Rock You. Their 2017 production was Billy Elliot and as well as being vocal coach, Jo had loads of fun playing dance teacher Mrs Wilkinson. Jo has always had a passion for jazz and musical theatre and has recently released an album of musical theatre songs from the last century called One Life To Live. She is very excited to be part of the team at The Talent Shack.
